Hair salons
Social media videos and content for Long Island hair salons
Quick answer
Core Media Co., a photography and video studio at 523 Lake Avenue in Saint James, NY, makes monthly social media content for hair salons across Long Island: color reveals, cuts, and the stylists who do them. Before and afters are lit the same way on both sides with no grade on the hair, and clients sign a release first. Plans run $1,500 to $4,000 per month with a six-month minimum.
Updated
Someone choosing a colorist wants to see the color: how it moves, how it reads in daylight, and whether the stylist who did it is someone they would sit with for three hours. We film the foil coming out, the blowout, the reveal under clean light, and the stylists who do the work, and hand over a month of Reels, photos, and captions.
Hair color is the hardest thing in the salon to film honestly, because light and editing can change it. We light the before and the after the same way, shoot both from the same angle, and do not grade, filter, or retouch the hair. You post the pieces, or hand them to whoever runs your accounts.
Through the year
A salon year, in content
Hair follows the season and the calendar. Pieces go out before clients book, not after.
Winter
Color corrections after the holidays, deep conditioning, and richer tones.
Spring
Prom and graduation styling, the first lightening of the year, and new cuts.
Summer
Blonding, gloss, and protecting color from sun and pool water.
Fall
Back to school cuts, darker and warmer color, and the move into holiday bookings.
The holidays
Party styling, gift cards, and the last open chairs of the year, posted in early November.
The work
What we make for a hair salon
Pieces built on the color, the cut, and the stylist.
The reveal
The finished color turning in the light, in slow motion, from one of your clients with a signed release.
Before and after
Both sides under the same light and the same angle, with nothing added in the edit.
The process
Sectioning, foils, the gloss at the bowl, and the blowout, in close-up.
The stylist
One stylist at a time, on their specialty and how they consult, with a signed release.
How to keep it
A minute on toning, washing, heat, and how long to wait between appointments.
The chair this week
Open appointments, a new stylist, or a new service, cut as a short Reel and a carousel.

How we film a hair salon
Rules we keep on every salon shoot, on top of the overview's.
- The before and the after are lit the same way and shot from the same angle, in the salon's own light or ours, never mixed.
- No color grade, filter, or retouching on the hair. Skin and background can be cleaned up; the color cannot be changed.
- Clients sign a release before their face is in a piece, and the back of a head is still a likeness if the client can be recognized from it.
- Chemical services are filmed with the salon's ventilation running, and we do not repeat a product label's claim in a caption.
- The stylist shown doing color or a chemical service holds a cosmetology license.
- Music is licensed for business use, or the piece runs without it.

What your salon provides
We do the planning, filming, editing, and captions. These stay with you.
- Two or three clients for each content day who have agreed to be filmed, each with a signed release.
- Stylists willing to be on camera, each with a signed release.
- Product and service names, and prices, exactly as you want them published.
- Any claim about a product, such as what it does or does not contain, checked against the product's own documentation.
- Someone to post the finished pieces and answer the comments and messages they bring in.
Rules
Rules that shape salon content
Who can be shown doing color, honest color, product claims, consent, and music.
Color and chemical services are cosmetology
New York's General Business Law section 400 defines cosmetology to include applying dyes, reactive chemicals, or other preparations to alter the color or to straighten, curl, or alter the structure of the hair, and says natural hair styling does not include those services. Section 401 requires a license to practice either. So a piece that shows color or a chemical service shows a licensed cosmetologist doing it.
The color shown is the color done
New York's General Business Law section 350 declares false advertising unlawful, and section 350-a defines it as advertising that is misleading in a material respect, judged by representations made by statement, word, design, device, sound, or any combination of them. A filter or grade that makes a color brighter, cooler, or more even than it came out is that kind of representation, so we do not change the hair in the edit.
Formaldehyde-free on a label is not proof
OSHA says that even products that do not list formaldehyde or methylene glycol on the label, or that claim to be formaldehyde free, can still expose workers to formaldehyde, and that the safety data sheets for all hair products must be available to workers. So a piece about a smoothing treatment does not repeat a label's formaldehyde claim, and we film it with the salon's ventilation running.
Clients on camera
New York's Civil Rights Law section 50 makes it a misdemeanor to use a living person's name, portrait, picture, likeness, or voice for advertising or trade without their written consent, or a parent's or guardian's for a minor, and section 51 lets that person sue to stop the use and recover damages. A client in the chair agreed to a service, not to an ad, so each one signs a release before a piece shows their face, and a before and after counts as their likeness too.
Music needs a license for business use
Meta's Music Guidelines, which apply on Instagram and Facebook, say that using music for commercial or non-personal purposes is prohibited unless you have the appropriate licenses. We cut every piece to music licensed for it, or to none.

Questions
Questions hair salons ask us
- Who makes social media videos for hair salons on Long Island?
- Core Media Co., a photography and video studio at 523 Lake Avenue in Saint James, NY. We film color reveals, cuts, and stylists for salons across Suffolk and Nassau County, and hand over a month of finished Reels, photos, and captions. Plans run $1,500 to $4,000 per month with a six-month minimum.
- How much does monthly content cost for a hair salon?
- Partner is $1,500, Partner+ is $2,750, and Flagship is $4,000 per month, each with a six-month minimum term, then month to month. Partner is 1 content day and 4 to 6 finished pieces a month. Partner+ is 2 content days, 1 long form video of 5 to 10 minutes, 10 short form pieces, and 3 to 4 static or carousel posts. Flagship is a weekly presence with 16+ pieces and event coverage included. The tiers are the same for a hair salon as for any other business.
- Will the color look the same on camera as it does in the chair?
- That is the goal of every salon shoot. We light the before and the after the same way, shoot both from the same angle, and never grade or filter the hair, because a color that looks different on screen is a misleading representation under New York's false advertising law.
- Do our clients have to sign anything?
- Yes, a release, before their face or a recognizable view of them is in a piece. New York's Civil Rights Law section 50 requires written consent to use a person's likeness for advertising. Clients who would rather not sign can still be filmed from angles where they cannot be recognized.
- Can you film a keratin or smoothing treatment?
- Yes, with the salon's ventilation running. OSHA says products labeled formaldehyde free can still expose workers to formaldehyde, so we do not repeat a label's formaldehyde claim in a caption.
- Do you post to our accounts or run our ads?
- No. We make the content and hand it over ready to post: the finished files and their captions, cut for each platform, in a shared folder. You post them, or pass them to whoever runs your accounts. We do not post, boost posts, or run ads, and we do not promise follower numbers.
