Lake Grove is an incorporated village in the Town of Brookhaven, near the Smithtown town line and near Lake Ronkonkoma, which gave it its name. It was settled in the early eighteenth century along Middle Country Road, Route 25, and incorporated as a village in 1968, the same year the Smith Haven Mall was built, partly within its boundaries. Route 347, the Nesconset Highway, arrived in 1954 and made the meeting of the two roads a major commercial crossroads.

Behind the commercial frontage, most of the village's three square miles is residential: ranches, capes, high ranches, split levels, and colonials on subdivision streets.
