Cold Spring Harbor is a hamlet in the Town of Huntington, at the western edge of Suffolk County, on the east side of the harbor it is named for, which takes its name from the cold freshwater springs in the area. The harbor is the county line: across the water is Laurel Hollow in Nassau County, where Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory stands. The hamlet's small business district runs along Route 25A, its Main Street, and the Whaling Museum, the Fish Hatchery and Aquarium, and Cold Spring Harbor State Park are the landmarks around it. The LIRR station that carries the name sits outside the hamlet, in West Hills.

The land climbs steeply from the water, so many houses sit on hillsides with long drives, and the higher ones look down the harbor. The housing is old at the center, with older houses near Main Street, and turns into larger houses on wooded parcels in the hills around it. On a lot like that the house can sit well above or below the road, and the view, the grade, and the approach are what the listing has to show.
