Twilight photography for Long Island listings

Twilight photography is a short exterior session at dusk, after the sun has set and before the sky goes dark, with every light in the house and on the grounds switched on. Core Media Co., a video production studio in Saint James, NY, shoots it as a separate visit at the end of the day, weather permitting, and delivers the finished twilight exteriors in the same shared folder as the rest of the listing. Twilight is part of the Signature package, $1,250 per listing, which also includes everything in the Full Package, a full property tour of roughly ten minutes, and social clips pulled from the tour.

The shoot

What a twilight shoot is

The daytime shoot covers the house in full. Twilight adds a small set of exterior frames taken in the narrow window when the sky still holds color and the lights inside and out read clearly against it.

  • Shot from outside, from the angles that show the front, and from any lit feature that deserves its own frame, such as a pool or the water side.
  • Bracketed exposures, blended in the edit so the sky, the lit windows, and the shadows all hold detail.
  • Graded to sit alongside the daytime set, so the gallery still reads as one house.

Fit

When it earns its place

Twilight is not for every listing. It earns its place when the house has something the evening shows better than the afternoon.

  • Exterior lighting: landscape lights, lanterns, lit paths, and outdoor living spaces that only read as a feature once they are switched on.
  • Pools, where the pool lights and the patio around them carry the frame.
  • Waterfront, where the water holds the color of the sky after sunset.
  • West-facing fronts, which catch the last direct light of the day, so the session can move from the facade in evening sun straight into dusk.
  • Houses with large windows, where the glow from inside is the point.

Scheduling

How it is scheduled

Twilight is its own short session, separate from the daytime shoot, timed to sunset on the day.

  • We set the time from the sunset for the date, which moves a long way between winter and summer on Long Island.
  • We arrive before sunset to set up. The usable light does not last, so the session is planned frame by frame before it starts.
  • Weather decides the evening. Rain or a heavy overcast means we move the session and agree another evening with you.
  • Every light in the house and on the grounds should be on when we arrive, with working bulbs, and the pool and landscape lighting switched on or set on their timers.
  • Someone needs to leave the lights on and tell us how to get in, or meet us there. We confirm which when we book.

It depends on the house. Twilight earns its place when the evening shows something the afternoon cannot: exterior lighting, a pool, the water, or a west-facing front that catches the last of the light. For a house without any of those, twilight adds less, and we will say so on the call.

What happens to a twilight shoot if it rains?
We move it. Twilight needs a clear or partly clear sky at dusk, so rain or a heavy overcast means we agree another evening with you. The daytime shoot is a separate visit, and we make the call on the evening as early as the forecast allows.
Is twilight photography the same as a virtual twilight edit?
No. A virtual twilight is a daytime photo edited to look like dusk. Twilight in the Signature package is a real session at the house at dusk, with the actual lights on, so the photos show the house as it looks in the evening.
