Manhasset sits at the head of Manhasset Bay, in the Town of North Hempstead, where the bay reaches in between the Port Washington peninsula and the Great Neck peninsula. Plandome Road is the local main street, running north from Northern Boulevard to the LIRR station on the Port Washington Branch, which sits in a cut below the road. Northern Boulevard, Route 25A, carries the larger commercial stretch across the south of the hamlet. Up the east side of the bay, Leeds Pond Preserve in Plandome Manor looks out over the water.

The housing stock has a lot of age in it. The Village of Munsey Park was built out from the late 1920s with Colonial Revival houses, many under slate roofs, on streets named for American artists. The Plandome villages to the north hold older colonials and larger houses toward the bay, and the streets around them fill in with postwar colonials and capes, with condominiums and co-ops closer to Northern Boulevard and the station.
