Bridgehampton is a hamlet in the Town of Southampton, between Water Mill to the west and Sagaponack and Wainscott to the east. It grew up at the head of Sagg Pond, where a bridge built in 1686 linked Mecox and Sagaponack and gave the place its name. Montauk Highway runs through the hamlet center, the Montauk Branch stops here, and the Hampton Classic horse show has been held on Snake Hollow Road since 1982, around Labor Day each year. The old Bridgehampton Race Circuit, near Sag Harbor, is now a golf course and homes.
Much of the land around the hamlet is open. Sagaponack, a village since 2005, has large houses built on former potato fields, with ocean beaches along its south side, and Water Mill, to the west, keeps both a working watermill and a windmill.
