Nesconset is a hamlet in the southeast of the Town of Smithtown, next to Saint James. Middle Country Road, Route 25, forms its northern edge, and the Nesconset-Port Jefferson Highway, Route 347, cuts across it diagonally, meeting Route 25 at the Saint James line. The commercial center is Smithtown Boulevard, and the southern edge of the hamlet takes in part of Lake Ronkonkoma.

For a long time this was pine barrens with a small settlement, and it grew quickly after Route 347 opened the southeast corner of the town in the 1950s. The housing follows that history: ranches, capes, high ranches, split levels, and colonials on subdivision streets, with larger colonials from later decades in some sections.
