Centerport is a hamlet in the Town of Huntington on the north shore, set on Little Neck, also called Centerport Neck, the smaller of two peninsulas side by side, with Centerport Harbor at its edge and Great Northport Neck next to it. Route 25A runs through the hamlet. On the neck is Eagle's Nest, the 43-acre estate of William Kissam Vanderbilt II, now the Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium, and the Centerport Yacht Club, founded in 1947, sits on the water.

The hamlet is almost entirely residential, with winding roads and houses on the hills above the harbor. Country estates were built here in the Gold Coast era, and the housing today runs from older houses, the Suydam House among them, a saltbox from 1730, to twentieth century colonials, capes, and ranches on the streets back from the water. Elevation and the view decide a lot of Centerport listings: whether a house looks down on the harbor, across it, or into the trees.
