Northport is an incorporated village in the northeastern part of the Town of Huntington, on a harbor off Northport Bay. Main Street runs downhill from the top of the village straight to the water, ending at a park and a public dock, with rails from the old trolley line still set in the pavement. The streets on either side climb the hills around the harbor and hold most of the village's older housing: houses from its nineteenth century shipbuilding years, Victorians with deep porches, and smaller village houses and cottages on tight lots, some with a view of the harbor from the upper streets.
Beyond the village the housing stock changes with direction. North, the village of Asharoken runs along a narrow strip of land between Northport Bay and the Sound out to Eatons Neck, so many houses there have water on both sides. East, toward Fort Salonga, larger houses sit on wooded lots, some on bluffs above the Sound. South, East Northport is mostly post war: capes, ranches, high ranches, and colonials on regular lots, where what separates one listing from the next is usually the renovation.
West of the studio along Route 25A, through Kings Park and Fort Salonga. Closer than Huntington, and an easy drive.
