Miller Place is a hamlet in the Town of Brookhaven on the north shore, on the east side of Mount Sinai Harbor, with Mount Sinai to the west and Sound Beach, Rocky Point, Coram, and Middle Island around it. Its shoreline is a two-mile stretch of beach on Long Island Sound, and Cordwood Landing County Park runs hilly, wooded trails down to Cedar Beach. North Country Road is the old center: the Miller Place Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 as the first historic district in the Town of Brookhaven, runs along it, with houses such as the William Miller House, parts of which date from 1720.

Route 25A carries most of the traffic through the hamlet. Away from the historic district, the housing is mostly twentieth century and later: capes, ranches, colonials, and high ranches on wooded lots and subdivision streets, and houses closer to the Sound, some with water views.
