Roslyn is at the head of Hempstead Harbor, in the Town of North Hempstead, where the harbor ends in a valley that Northern Boulevard crosses on the Roslyn Viaduct. The Village of Roslyn sits in that valley. Its landmark is the Ellen E. Ward Memorial Clock Tower, where Main Street meets Old Northern Boulevard, and around it the Main Street Historic District and the streets along East Broadway hold houses from the 1700s and 1800s, many set close to the road. Gerry Park, around the village duck pond, is a short walk from the clock tower.
Around the village the housing stock widens. Roslyn Harbor, on the east side of the harbor, has larger houses on wooded parcels, some with water views. Roslyn Heights, where the LIRR station on the Oyster Bay Branch is, and East Hills are mostly postwar: colonials, split levels, ranches, and larger newer houses on regular lots, with condominium and co-op developments in between. Christopher Morley Park, a Nassau County park, is close by. A Roslyn listing can be a house from the 1700s or a renovated split level, and the two are shot very differently.
